The Rotary Club of Belconnen celebrated 50 years of the Trash and Treasure markets at Jamison with face painting for kids, cake, one hundred $10 vouchers for patrons, and $14,800 donated to local community organisations.

Kids in Care ACT received $5,500 for winning the Treasure Chest draw while nine other charities that were invited to participate received $500 each. $4,800 was donated to Bery and Doris Woemen’s refuges and Karinya House from the proceeds of raffle ticket sales.

The Rotary Club of Belconnen also hosted a 50th anniversary dinner at the Belconnen Labor Club that was attended by current and former members, Rotarians from across the District, and local politicians. A PHF was awarded to former members of the Club who were instrumental in establishing the market. This includes Dr Fyfe Bygrave, the sole remaining charter member of the Rotary Club of Belconnen.

The Trash and Trash and Treasure Market was established by the Rotary Club of Belconnen in 1974.  The Market runs every Sunday morning from 06:30am to 12:30pm in the Jamison Centre carpark. It takes eight volunteers each Sunday to set-up, run, and pack away the markets. This involves members from Belconnen and assisting Clubs, including the Rotaract Club of Canberra.

Over the years, the club has raised more than $8 million, which has been re-distributed back into the local community, and overseas, through various projects. This includes the building, and subsequent expansion, of Rotary Cottage at Canberra North Hospital.
